  1. I have been a patient of Dr. Stanley Michael’s since 2010. I first went to see Dr Michael with a tremendous amount of pain in my right hip. He was the third surgeon whom I had seen to get an opinion before making the final decision to undergo surgery. Dr. Michael is a wonderful person as well as a highly accomplished surgeon. He has a bedside manner that many physicians would aspire to achieve. One of the most notable characteristics is his willingness to give you the time needed to explain your condition, how it may be treated, and what direction would be the most appropriate direction to proceed. I never felt rushed into making a decision before I completely understood all the details necessary to make a well-informed choice. Since first meeting Dr. Michael in 2010 I have replaced both hips and this summer, 2016, I had a total knee replacement. Initially I saw Dr. Michael at his Temple University office and made the decision to have him perform my total hip replacement because he is one of a few doctors in our area who is able to use an anterior approach for hip replacement. This approach minimizes the recovery period post operatively. In December 2014, Dr. Michael joined The Institute of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in Barnegat, NJ and began performing surgery at the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, NJ. Another remarkable fact about Dr. Michael is the manner in which the hospital staff speaks about him. I had surgery at both Temple University and Southern Ocean County Medical Center. In both places the office staff, the operating room staff and nurses on the floor all talked about Dr. Michael and how wonderful he is. Today I am able walk without discomfort and enjoy activities I had not been able to do before the hip and knee replacements. Dr. Michael’s surgical ability has been life changing for me and my family.

  2. "In my almost 70 yrs., I have never met a more caring, considerate, understanding, or dedicated physician." says:

In early July 2016, our mother was taken to the hospital due to severe hip pain, which she had been dealing with for quite some time; however, it had become so unbearable that she was only able to walk a few steps without acute discomfort. The family had thought that perhaps she had fallen and broken some bones. I believe it was fate that she was taken to the hospital that particular day because we had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Michael. In my almost 70 yrs., I have never met a more caring, considerate, understanding, or dedicated physician. I was so impressed and appreciative of the time he took to explain my mother’s condition, and what, if any, options she might have in order to improve her quality of life in some way. Over the next 4 ½ months, Dr. Michael took the time to personally meet with, and/or return numerous phone calls from various members of our family, and his professional office staff was a pleasure to work with. Dr. Michael’s dedication to his profession, and concern for his patients never ceased to amaze all of us. We believed with all our hearts, as did Mom, that if anyone could help her —— it would be Dr. Michael!
Although surgery had to be re-scheduled several times because of recurring UTIs and anemia, Dr. Michael and our family never gave up, and on Nov. 18th, Dr. Michael performed, what, at times seemed to be an impossible feat, i.e., full hip replacement surgery on our 91 year old mom. Granted, she has a long way to go with physical therapy, but she has renewed faith and optimism that she will, once again, have a quality of life.
There aren’t enough words to fully express the respect and appreciation we all have for his kind heart, and exemplary medical and surgical skills, but the family will be forever grateful that our paths with him crossed. He is one in a million in the medical profession, and those he cares for have truly been blessed.
Thank you, Dr. Michael, for bringing hope and sunshine into the lives of many —- may that, and so much more be returned to you and your loved ones always.
    Respectfully,

  3. "The kindness and attention I received from him were outstanding, and a rarity in today’s medical culture." says:

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Dr. Stanley Michael for the extraordinary care he has given me. In January 2015, I suffered an avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal. It was a relatively minor injury which typically resolves itself within several weeks. At my first follow up appointment a few weeks after the injury, Dr Michael noticed some early signs of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a potentially serious condition with long term consequences. It is a condition difficult to diagnose and often overlooked, making it more difficult to treat. Thanks to his early diagnosis, I immediately began intensive PT, and required no medication or other treatment. After about a year, my recovery was at about 90% and now I can happily say there are no signs at all of any problem. Dr Michael was always available to reassure me and address any of my concerns. The kindness and attention I received from him were outstanding, and a rarity in today’s medical culture. I thank him once again for all that he has done to help me.

  4. The last thing a 15 year old boy wants to hear in June from an Orthopaedic Surgeon is: “ We will need to do surgery to repair this break.”
My son had fallen at a skate park and we immediately went to the Emergency Department because we could tell by the looks of it that something was not right. The doctors there had told us that it was an ankle fracture and that we would have to follow up with an Orthopaedic surgeon.
Without question, we knew who we were going to see. I had used Dr. Michael for my daughter’s ankle injury a few short weeks before and we immediately fell in love with him!
My son and I knew walking into the office that we were in for a long road ahead of us, figuring he would be in a cast nearly all summer. When Dr. Michael walked into the room, he told us that he had already looked at the X-Rays and we would need to do a CAT scan because the break appeared worse than expected. He said he not only had an ankle fracture but he had broken his tibia and growth plate as well and his bones at this point weren’t even aligned. He explained how surgery was going to be the only way to ensure everything would heal properly. He showed us the X-Rays and went over where the breaks were and how it would need to be repaired by placing between 3-5 screws in his tibia, ankle and growth plate. I could see the fear all over my son’s face, and I as well was feeling very uneasy about the treatment plan. Dr. Michael assured us that he was completely comfortable performing the surgery but he also had absolutely no problem if I wanted to go to a Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon. I couldn’t even imagine someone other than him performing the surgery. I knew we were not leaving Dr. Michael. We were putting all of our trust in his hands and we knew he would not let us down.
Surgery was scheduled for that Friday and my son grew more and more fearful. Before the surgery, Dr. Michael came in to the Pre Op room and assured us once again that everything was going to be fine. Surgery lasted a little longer than expected but when Dr. Michael came into the waiting room, he greeted us with a warm smile and let me know that everything went beautifully. He showed me the new X-Rays and how perfectly he got the bones to realign. He was extremely happy with the surgery and so was I.
Follow-up visits to the office were just part of our new routine; suture removal, casting, transition to a walking boot and lots of physical therapy. Through it all, Dr. Michael’s warm smile and compassionate care was exactly what we needed. He explained every part of the process to us, so we always knew what was going on and what was to come. To this day, November 2016, we are still going for follow-up visits, and my son smiles every time I tell him we have an appointment because he gets to see – “ HIS BUDDY” , Dr. Michael !

  5. Dear Dr. Michael,
I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for me. You did my right ACL surgery at age 15yrs. and repaired my left knee cartilage which was damaged from playing basketball, at age 20yrs. You recognized and nurtured my spark for medicine, which enabled me to pursue my athletic and professional dreams.
I am beyond excited to tell you that this summer 2017, I will begin my first year of medical school!
Recently, I have also had the opportunity to coach my high school’s basketball team. Interestingly, several of my players are interested in careers in healthcare!
I hope to inspire patients and future physicians the way you inspired me.
    Thank You,

  6. "I would unhesitatingly recommend Dr. Stan Michael for any orthopedic related consultation and surgery." says:

Dr. Stanley Michael is a very competent and confident Orthopedic surgeon. I say this after personally experiencing his expertise, after he operated on my shoulder.

Not only is he competent, he is also very pleasant in his interactions , makes you feel very comfortable, patiently answers all questions you have, and demonstrates very clearly , but softly, that he is extremely knowledgeable in his field.

When I first interacted with him on my shoulder problem, he instilled in me the confidence that he would be my surgeon of choice. So even though his practice was a 2.5 hr drive from my place , I had no hesitation in opting for his services.

I would unhesitatingly recommend Dr. Stan Michael for any orthopedic related consultation and surgery.

  7. "It is not just his ability as a surgeon that makes him a standout, it is his personal commitment to you as a patient." says:

I’ve known Dr. Michael for over twenty years. Over that time, my family and I have used his services several times. What you get with Dr. Michael is exactly that, Dr. Michael, not someone you never heard of from a franchise treatment center. Last year, I began to experience numbness in both my hands and pain up and down my arms. I knew I could trust Dr. Michael to correctly diagnose the problem and only operate if it made sense. It turns out I had carpal tunnel syndrome and surgery was required. My surgery was a success and I have since fully recovered. While this is routine surgery for Dr. Michael, he never treated me routinely. I felt like I was his only patient. It is not just his ability as a surgeon that makes him a standout, it is his personal commitment to you as a patient.

  8. Having had knee replacement on my left leg a few years ago and never being completely satisfied with the results, I was very reluctant to have the much needed replacement of my right knee. That being said, I put this surgery off for far too long. Push comes to shove, I saw Dr. Michael on a recommendation from my family doctor and am very glad that I did. The results were the difference between night and day. With the help of a walker, I was on my feet the following day. I was home by the third day and walking with just a cane on the fourth day. Recovery time was less than half of what was required for my first surgery. Not only was I recovering much quicker, but the pain associated with knee replacement was far less than what I had previously experienced. By the end of the second week, I was able to walk without the aid of a cane as well.
I attribute my successful and quick recovery to the skill and very personalized care of Dr. Michael. I highly recommend anyone contemplating knee, hip or any other orthopaedic surgery or care to make an appointment with Dr. Michael. I am sure you will be completely satisfied with his attention to detail, professional manner and the end results.
